I've taken a liking to Facebook Live.  There are other platforms of similar live-video-streaming services, but Facebook is the network I spend most of my time on, therefore, Facebook Live makes the most sense for me to use.  So, what do I use it for?  It allows me an opportunity to make short videos of pieces I'm working on.  I've started integrating Facebook Live into my weekly rehearsal routine, actually! My personal parameters are to find between ten and thirty seconds of a piece that I haven't played in ages -or something brand new.

Next, I'll spend five to ten minutes polishing it up. Finally, I'll start the Facebook Live broadcast and share it with you guys!  Using this tool enables me to brush up on songs in my backlog in a timely fashion and also prep brand new songs quickly.  If I'm unable to get the song ready in ten minutes or less, I simply don't broadcast it!  Keep in mind that the exhilarating part about Facebook Live is that your friends are watching you as you perform.  It's an exhibition of what you've been working on -featuring a live audience!  Remember, if all goes well -you can keep the video up!  If things don't go so well, you can delete it once the broadcast finishes.  I've kept many of my videos up, but part of the glamour of what the LIVE CONCERT EXPERIENCE used to be was that the performance happened only once for the people attending. With cameras in the equation, any performance can exist forever (no pressure, of course)!  Yes, I hope that conjures a little bit of pressure... after all, I hope you want to do a good job!  Anybody can go on Facebook live and "be bored" or derp around -but I've found that when I use it as a practice tool, it gives me the same adrenaline rush as when I perform for an in-the-flesh audience.  It helps keep me sharp!  Maybe only a one or two people will watch you -but if you can't play for two... what makes you think you'll be able to play for two-hundred-thousand someday?  Best of luck -and hopefully, I'll be able to catch your broadcast!

If you haven't tried Facebook Live, I highly recommend it!  If you'd like to check out some of my Facebook Live vids, you are more than welcome to follow me here: Personal or check out my official music page here: Tyler Larson - Music Page

What have your experience with Facebook Live been?  I look forward to hearing from you!

Until next time,

-T.
